POSITION TITLE: Executive Director

POSITION TYPE: Full time, Exempt (Salaried)
COMPENSATION: $225,000–$325,000. Compensation commensurate with experience, education, and training.

POSITION OVERVIEW
A new family and tech policy 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeks an Executive Director to launch and lead the organization. The organization is a nonpartisan project focused on protecting childhood, strengthening American families, and promoting healthy technology usage. Its efforts promote healthy technology policies so families can flourish and children can learn, play, and thrive.
The Executive Director will serve as the leader of the new organization, driving the mission, strategic direction, and policy initiatives. This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader who is passionate about family well-being, health, education, and technology policy. This position requires a leader with an entrepreneurial mindset who is experienced at growing and managing new organizations from the ground up and wisely stewarding start-up funds.
The leader should have a strong moral vision, capable of inspiring others to support a mission-driven agenda through partnership-building and strategic advocacy. The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of the organization’s operations, including program development, policy advocacy, fundraising, talent identification, and stakeholder engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the strategic vision for the organization, ensuring alignment with the mission of promoting healthy technology and strong American families.
- Policy Advocacy: Lead the organization’s policy agenda, focusing, initially, on reducing the presence of cell phones and other internet-connected devices in schools. Work with the Director of Public Policy to promote policy changes at local and state levels across the country, working closely with policymakers, school administrators, and community leaders.
- Program Development: Oversee the creation and execution of research initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and resource allocation.
- Fundraising, Budgeting, and Development: Create realistic, but ambitious, budgets to achieve the organization’s mission and goals. Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to secure financial support from other funders including, but not limited to, foundations, individuals, family offices, and corporate entities. Cultivate relationships with potential funders and stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth.
- Talent Identification: Identify and recruit skilled professionals to join the organization’s team, including staff, consultants, and external partners. Foster a collaborative work culture that supports professional growth and aligns with the organization’s values.
- Coalition Building: Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations and educational institutions to amplify the organization's impact. Foster collaboration across sectors to build a coalition of partners locally, regionally, and nationally dedicated to healthy technology use in schools and families.
- Team Leadership: Build and manage a high-performing team. Foster a collaborative work culture that supports professional growth and aligns with the organization’s values.
- Communications and Public Relations: Serve as the public face of the organization, representing it in media, conferences, and public fora. Develop and implement a communication strategy to raise awareness about the organization’s mission, research, and achievements.
- Board Relations: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance, organizational growth, and achievement of strategic goals. Provide regular updates on organizational performance and key initiatives.
- Operational Management: Oversee the organization’s financial health, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to work as an operative to enact a strategic vision and mission.
- Adept skills in bringing people together who have different worldviews, values, or outlooks.
- A strong track record of seven-plus years of success in the nonprofit sector, policy advocacy, or a related field, with demonstrated management experience.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans and organizational growth initiatives.
- Strong fundraising and development skills, with experience building relationships to secure funding from a diverse portfolio.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to effectively convey our mission and engage with diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of legislative processes and experience in advocating for policy changes especially at the state or local level.
- A deep commitment to mission.
- Positive, can-do attitude, self motivated, and organized.
