POSITION TITLE: Program Officer / Senior Program Officer

COMPENSATION: $100,000-$150,000. Compensation commensurate with experience, education, and training.

POSITION OVERVIEW
A private foundation seeks a Program Officer to work closely with the organization’s principals to oversee philanthropy in the foundation’s Flourishing Families policy portfolio.
The Program Officer will collaborate closely with grantees. In addition, the Officer will seek out new organizations for philanthropic opportunities and new partners.
The ideal candidate for this role will be mission-driven and believe in the philanthropic priorities of the foundation, which include Flourishing Families, individual and economic freedom, pluralism, limited government, and support for Jewish life and the U.S.-Israel alliance.

- Combating the harms of social media and other technologies on children.
- Supporting opportunities for the thriving of boys and men.
- Developing evidence-based standards for pro-family policies at all levels of government. Fostering original research to understand what practices and policies best support family flourishing.
- Building novel approaches for supporting family growth and formation.
- Empowering and encouraging parenthood and parental rights.
- Supporting pluralistic solutions for families, including programs that support LGB-parent families and respect for religious liberty.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
- Act as an adviser to senior team members of the foundation and help facilitate effective philanthropic decision-making and execution of philanthropic initiatives in the Flourishing Families grantmaking portfolio.
- Monitor developments and cultivate subject-matter expertise in the issue area for yourself and the team, tracking breaking news, opinion, commentary, and original research in the issue areas.
- Proactively support grantees, consultants, and other partners as they do their work and position yourself as a constant source of expertise, advice, connections, and general support.
- Support the principals and senior team members as they develop yearly or multi-yearly strategic plans and budgets; help track budgets for philanthropic initiatives.
External Relations
- Build and develop relationships with team members and organizational partners on current projects and potential future collaborative efforts.
- Cultivate grantee-to-grantee collaboration across the portfolio, maximizing the strengths of various groups and minimizing duplication of efforts.
- Manage partnership requests to and from other family offices, other foundations, and similar organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, and seven (7) or more years of experience in philanthropy, government, politics, and/or public policy.
- Experience with budget management and strategic planning.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Works independently and can handle multiple concurrent responsibilities and numerous projects with tight deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
