POSITION OVERVIEW

A new family and tech policy 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeks a Director of Coalitions to help grow a movement of likeminded partners committed to our new organization’s goals. The organization is a new nonpartisan effort focused on protecting childhood, strengthening American families, and promoting healthy technology usage. Its efforts promote healthy technology policies so families can flourish and children can learn, play, and thrive.

The Director of Coalitions is responsible for working with the full range of likeminded organizations and individuals, including nonprofits, private school networks, teachers’ unions, educational experts, researchers, business associations, and corporations, to promote healthy technology adoption and stronger American families. This role involves building and leading a coalition of mission-aligned organizations to increase families’ chances of raising healthy, happy children, focusing initially on phones and other internet-connected devices in schools. The Director will also generate resources to help certain schools and other organizations adopt best practices around technology usage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coalition Building:
  • Lead efforts to build a coalition dedicated to removing cell phones and other internet-connected devices from schools.
  • Develop relationships with school administrators, educators, and parent associations, and marshal them to join the broader effort to promote and implement policies that support healthy technology use in schools and in society.
  • Work with academics to be sure that the right data are being collected to measure the impact of the organization’s private entity efforts.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between organization and coalition members, ensuring consistent communication, shared goals, and collaborative efforts.
  • Create and publish a bi-weekly newsletter and organize coalition calls to be sure that mission-aligned organizations are coordinated.
  • Organize and facilitate coalition meetings, workshops, and strategy sessions to foster a sense of community and shared purpose among participants.
  • Create opportunities for shared advocacy campaigns, public service initiatives, and collaborative research projects to amplify the reach and impact of coalition efforts.

Leadership and Advocacy:
  • Advocate for child well-being, speaking to the ethical imperatives of reducing technology’s negative influence on childhood.
  • Represent the organization’s mission, projects, and values at conferences, symposiums, and public fora, sharing the organization's mission and fostering a broader conversation about the role of technology in childhood.

Public Engagement and Awareness:
  • Work with school networks and coalition partners to offer resources and speakers for conferences and events.
  • Oversee the creation of outreach materials, including webinars, workshops, and presentations for schools, community groups, and partners.
  • Organize public fora and events to engage stakeholders, share success stories, and highlight the positive impacts of coalition-led initiatives.
  • Create a repository of resources, including policy guides, case studies, and research to support the work of coalition partners and schools.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
  • 5+ years of experience in coalition building, partnership development, or advocacy, ideally within the education, family, or technology policy sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strategic partnerships and leading collaborative initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the education sector, including the non-public education system(s).
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Proven ability to influence policy decisions and build consensus among stakeholders with different perspectives.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working with private school networks or associations.
  • Knowledge of current research on the impact of technology on mental health and child development.
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting at conferences or public forums.
  • Familiarity with legislative processes and advocacy strategies.
